Aside from a rug, I think a coffee table is one of the best ways to tie a living room look together.

I love the the coastal style and especially a coastal-themed living room, with its light and airy atmosphere and relaxed vibe. As a primary furniture piece in a living room, a coastal coffee table is one of the key elements needed to achieve this look.

Coastal coffee tables are not just functional pieces of furniture, they also add character and charm to any living space!

Coffee Table Style Options

Driftwood/Live Edge

A statement piece that actually tells a story, usually made from a single piece of weathered driftwood, it’s a nod to nature and craftsmanship.

These can be a bit more pricey, but if you’re really looking for something to draw focus in your coastal living space, this is a great option!

Light Wood

Fabric Ottoman-Style

A popular option for coastal living rooms is a fabric ottoman-style coffee table. These can be found in various patterns and colors, adding a touch of texture and personality to the space.

Materials Matter

Choosing the right material for your coffee table is important in achieving that coastal vibe. Stick with natural materials such as wood, rattan, or wicker. If you prefer a sleeker look, opt for coastal coffee tables made from glass or metal.

Functionality and Practicality

Coastal coffee tables are not just about looks; they must also serve the practical needs of daily living.

Think about your current lifestyle. With little ones, it likely may not work to have a coastal coffee table with sharp edges. Instead it may be better for a fabric ottoman, or at least one without sharp edges.

Storage Solutions with Style

Many coastal coffee tables are crafted with storage in mind.

Drawers, shelves, and cubbies provide space for board games, coasters, and that novel you’ve been dying to finish – keeping your living room clutter-free and clean.

This round storage coffee table from Pottery Barn and the Market Coffee Table are two of my favorite coastal coffee tables that provide storage.

Choosing the Right Coastal Coffee Table for You

Picking the perfect coastal coffee table for your space is a fine balance between aesthetic, budget and functionality.

Additionally, consider the proportions of your room and the scale of your existing furniture. A large sectional might call for a more substantial table. Alternatively, a delicate glass-topped table could be right for a room with more modest seating.

Consider Sustainability

When choosing your coastal coffee table, you may also want to consider sustainable options.

Tables made from reclaimed wood, or those crafted without negatively impacting the environment, are not only ethical but often can lend a more authentic coastal feel to your space.

Some retailers such as Pottery Barn even have a dedicated section on their website that features sustainably sourced coffee tables.
