Taking you on a tour of my home office (which has quickly become one of my favorite spaces in our home), so that you can get inspiration for your own coastal home office!
I love the ability to work from home, but if I’m not careful, my work stuff can easily end up in the living room or bedroom (or kitchen or bathroom or outdoors, ha!)
Having a dedicated office space has been one of my favorite places to add in calming coastal decor. So I wanted to show you some great coastal home office ideas that you can repeat in your own space for a similar look!

Calming Color Palette

Paint can change the entire feel of the room!
My office is painted a custom color selected by the previous homeowners but it’s very similar to Benjamin Moore’s Glass Slipper. It’s fun to see the color change from a pretty blue/green in the morning when the sun is shining brightly through my windows to more of a gray with blue undertones later in the day as the sun shifts away from my home office.
A true coastal color palette consists of lots of blues, grays, and whites – and the beauty is that you can use varying shades of the same colors for monochromatic looks.
Fabric Office Chair

You can of course have a chair that’s not fabric, but when you add in a fabric office chair it gives you another chance to add in a level of cozy.
I have this fabric office chair in my office and it is SO comfortable. I love that the fabric looks high end but can be easily spot cleaned for those days I spill something on it.
Mix Shades and Drapes

The beauty of having drapes and shades is that it’s really good for blocking out light on super bright days, but they’re also really easy to move so that I can maximize all the natural light in my office.
That 3 o’clock slump can also hit me HARD some days and if you’re the same way, aim to use light filtering shades and drapes in lighter colors to make your space feel more bright!
The drapes also really help to soften this space. Living in New England, the days are often chilly and I love anything that makes my home office feel more warm and cozy.
Pro tip: I prefer to hang my curtains as high as possible on the window so that it draws the eyes up and makes your ceilings feel taller!
Decorative Storage

I love this bookcase in my home office that provides closed drawers for storage, but then allows me to scratch that creative itch and have the shelves decorated with some of my favorite coastal decor!
Decorating shelves can be tricky so just remember that less is more – if you add too much it will look cluttered and feel messy.
Add a Sitting Area

One of my favorite pieces in this whole office is my sitting chair.
I love the warmth and texture that this rattan chair adds to the space, and it really gives my home office that modern coastal vibe.
Sometimes my office doubles as a space where I sit and scroll my phone, or just take a break from doing work. Having this fabulous chair in a separate sitting area is a nice little added bonus.
Greenery

If you’re looking for a few more coastal home office ideas, adding some greenery can really bring life into a space.
I tend to kill plants (oops!) so I opt for faux plants and I’ve found some incredible quality faux plants from Amazon, that I have saved here in my storefront!
Some more great options to get quality, realistic faux greenery:

I strongly advise having flowers on your desk as well if possible, even if they’re not real.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been working head down at my desk or gotten annoyed with something and been able to see these flowers – and for a second, it brought a smile to my face. They’re not magic, but they are kind of magic, ha!
Stylish and Functional Desk

While we are talking about my desk, now is a perfect time to mention that I feel that my desk is the absolute perfect fit for a coastal home office.
The second I saw this woven desk, I knew it had to come home with me. It is such a good blend of style and functionality in a coastal design scheme. This exact desk is no longer available, but this rattan one from Amazon is SO similar! I actually like it even better than mine – the acrylic handles and brass capped feet give it such a high-end, designer look!
Anchor the Room

My lame attempt at a nautical coastal joke, how did I do? 😉
In all seriousness, the way I like to anchor rooms is with rugs. I’ve been able to find some amazing coastal rugs online and have been incredibly pleased with the quality!
(And if you’re looking for more of a runner type rug, you should check out the best coastal runner rugs I’ve found too!)
